BackerKit Update & SMALL MAGIC
about 3 years ago – Thu, Mar 04, 2021 at 12:08:38 AM

Hi Shannara Backers!

A short update right now. First, Terry's new book Small Magic is published by Del Rey Books and is in fine bookstores. Pick up a copy to read new Shannara, Landover, and Word/Void tales! Or join Terry and me tonight at 6PM PT via the virtual University Book Store event. You have to buy a copy of the book, I think, but I also think Terry will be reading from Child of Light, which is pretty neat.

And about BackerKit. I have finished setting up all of the items in BackerKit. But I had forgotten that Kickstarter takes two weeks -- basically, their sweet time -- in collecting monies. BackerKit won't go live until that happens. I will send out an update once BackerKit goes live. Then you will be able to pick your add-ons, put your mailing address in, pay for shipping, etc. etc.

One more thing. We sold just over 500 copies of The Scions of Shannara. Due to that, our print run should be 750 copies. Obviously some of you have the limited edition of First King of Shannara that is numbered between 751-1000. It means you wouldn't be able to match copies. BUT, Terry and I have not talked about what our print run is going to be. Maybe we will do 1000. So until we decide on that -- and we will soon -- don't worry. We will do our best to accommodate everyone.

Now. Go read something good. :)

YOU DID IT! AND THEREFORE, WE DID IT! YAY!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 02, 2021 at 08:36:01 PM

Hi Shannara Backers!

I've said it before but I'll say it again. You guys did this. YOU! Yes... even you. Well done. Terry and I are unbelievably pleased with this outcome. A Kickstarter funded!

Now the work begins. Since this morning, I've been getting the BackerKit store created. That's where you will select your add-ons (coin set, art portfolio, etc) and pay for your shipping. It's also where you will enter in your mailing address and eventually take a survey about what previous Grim Oak Press Shannara book number we can possibly match your tier to.

If I remember right, BackerKit takes a few days to review what I've done before going live. So we have some time. I imagine that will happen later this week. Once it goes live though, I'll send out another notice here and you will receive an email with the survey. It will be that easy.

I think I will leave the BackerKit open until May 1st. That's two months. In that way, I hope to help some of you recover from the Kickstarter cost as well as give us some time to put together authentic pictures of the coins, portfolio, etc. etc. I'll charge BackerKit on May 2nd. That way we'll have final total counts for all items and can move them into production for August delivery.

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know in the comments below!

Yay, we did it! Now the real work begins!

Two Stretch Goals Met! What's the $230K Stretch Goal??
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 01, 2021 at 03:36:35 PM

Hi Shannara Backers,

I went to sleep last night excited about hitting another goal. And voila! Two stretch goals met in as many days?! Wow! You guys are amazing! Specially-designed endpapers coming as well as a new coin!

That said, what is the stretch goal for $230K? I just got off the phone with Terry and he wishes to give you guys something interesting if we hit this last new goal in the next 90 minutes: The first chapter of Patch Magic!

What is Patch Magic? It is a YA book Terry started a few years ago, one he plans on returning to maybe after the sequel to Child of Light is finished. It features a girl named July Christmas, whose strange family is turned upside down and made even more strange by the appearance of a magical black cat named Patch Magic. That's about all I know about it but I've read the chapter and I loved it. I even read it out loud to my wife. When I finished reading she said, "That's it?? I have to wait for more!?" I laughed. She grumbled. Then Terry laughed when I told him about her reaction.

Anyway, we have a new stretch goal! Terry rarely shows off his Work In Progress outside of events. So this is pretty special.

What a day! Well done, everyone!

Stetch Goal Met! Plus New Website!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Feb 28, 2021 at 02:39:21 PM

Hi Shannara Readers,

A short message. But a cool one.

BECAUSE WE UNLOCKED ANOTHER STRETCH GOAL! YAY!

This was the $170K stretch goal, which upgrades Tier 1 and Tier 2 books to cloth boards from paper boards. This is a huge upgrade in quality. So excited about this. I love better materials on a book and you guys made that happen. So well done!

What's up next at the $180K stretch goal? A fold-out map of the Four Lands! We gotta get that one, right? Keep up the good work on spreading word about the Kickstarter.

In other news, I spent the weekend redesigning Terry's website for the release of Small Magic, his forthcoming short fiction collection that features tales from Shannara, Landover, Word/Void, and Cloudmoor. It publishes March 2nd and I put together a new website page featuring the short story titles as well as an excerpt from The Fey of Cloudmoor. You can find that HERE and I hope you enjoy!

Onward with Magic,

Shawn

Stretch Goal Met! Fold-Out Four Lands Map!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Feb 28, 2021 at 02:39:19 PM

Hi All,

A short update since I'm working on final edits on Song of the Fell Hammer today.

We hit $180,000! That's a stretch goal completed! Yay! It means a fold-out Four Lands map will be included in The Scions of Shannara for all tiers! This is pretty epic. We love fantasy and fantasy loves maps therefore we love maps, right? And Russ Charpentier's maps are pretty great, which makes all tiers for this Kickstarter even more awesome now!

Speaking of Russ, he and I are talking about offering an 18" x 24" Four Lands map printed on heavy-weight textured stock as an add-on. I know many of you love maps and this might be a great way to help with that. They wouldn't be signed. And there would be a separate shipping charge since they'd have to be shipped in a tube. But all of that might be worth it. Will let you know in the days to come how all of this works out!

In the meantime, keep sharing the Kickstarter on various social media SF&F groups and the like. You guys made this stretch goal happen! Keep up the excellent magic!

With WebDruid Magic,

Shawn

PS: A few people have waived their First King lettered edition rights for Scions and Indomitable. Once I have heard from everyone who hasn't ordered, I'll update you when the remaining lettered edition copies will be posted back onto the Kickstarter, likely mid-next-week. More soon!
